Location : The Kanha National Park is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
An Overview : The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha provided inspiration to Rudyard Kipling for his famous novel "Jungle Book". The Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh came into being in 1955 and forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve, created in 1974 under Project Tiger. The Park's landmark achievement is the preservation of the rare hardground Swamp Deer (Barasingha), saving it from near extinction. Stringent conservation programs for the overall protection of the Park's fauna and flora, makes Kanha one of the most well maintained National Parks in Asia.

Wildlife Attractions : While Kanha is rugged hilly territory, the sanctuary area is rather plain. There are more than 22 species of mammals and 200 species of Birds. Some of the inhabitants of this park are the Black Faced Langur, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Jungle Cat, Mongoose, Civets, Sambar, Gaur and the Chital. The park attracts many migratory birds in the winter months. Reptilian fauna includes Cobra, Krait, Python, Turtle and a Variety of Lizards. Kanha is best known as the habitat of the Tiger.
» Flora - A major portion of the park is consist of tress like Sal, Chir, Anauri, Bakli, Bamboo, Haldu and several other.
» Fauna - The park is popular for its population of Bengal Tiger and Swamp Deer ( Barashinga ). Other wildlife in the park includes leopard, Small indian civet, Ruddy Mongoose, Common Palm Civet, Jungle Cat, Sloth bear, Black naped grey hare, Langur, Sambar deer, Barking deer and Porcupine etc.
» Avi-fauna - Kanha National Park has around 200 bird species including Black Baza, Stork Billed Kingfisher, Crested Serpent Eagle, Hornbills, Barbets, Peacocks, Red jungle fowl and many more. Its rich bird life makes it one of the popular birdwatching spot in India.
